Do you know that in America and Canada, an entrée refers to the main dish or the only dish of the meal? Whereas, in modern French table service and that of much of the English-speaking world, entrée is a dish served before the main course of a meal, synonymous with the terms hors d’oeuvre, appetizer or starter.

The word “entrée” as a culinary term first appeared in print around 1536, in the Petit traicte auquel verrez la maniere de faire cuisine, in a collection of menus at the end of the book. Accordingly,  the first stage of each meal is called the entree de table (entrance to the table, usually a course of cold foods served from the buffet or sideboard); the second stage consists of potaiges (foods boiled or simmered in pots); the third consists of one or more services de rost (meat or fowl “roasted” in dry heat); and the last is the issue de table (departure from the table, a course of preserved fruits, sweets, such as marzipan, and biscuits).

However, the stages of the meal underwent several significant changes between mid-16th and mid-17th century. What’s the change? Let’s check that out in the next blog post with menu set 1. But today we’ll have sur la table in the 16th century manner.

When looking for ways to organize my writings in this digital marketing realm, I remember my beginning days as a digital marketer. I was overwhelmed by a plethora of scattered articles on the internet. It’s similar to when you are entering a restaurant with an à la carte menu. You are probably stricken by a paradox of choices. In a similar fashion, there are a thousand bites of knowledge that one wants to dive into in the arena of digital marketing. I was thinking why not make it easier to digest with compact menu sets in different themes. This series will present to you the feasts in Digital Marketing, organized in menu sets with three or four courses per menu. You can pick whatever menu you want to taste every day. By Kaizen philosophy, you’ll have enough nutrition in this realm without suffering from overeating.
